Private View, 24 June at Berntson Bhattacharjee Gallery

Art on a Postcard's (AOAP) summer auction is a must for art lovers keen to cash in on the current trend for miniature art. The auction is in aid of The Hepatitis C Trust, which is on course to eliminate hepatitis C by 2030 and has announced an exciting development in a move toward using its valuable resources, especially the peer model, which works exceptionally well for individuals who are less likely to receive NHS care. In just five years, they have engaged over 300,000 people considered "hard to reach" by the health service and supported more than 15,000 into treatment. These individuals require assistance with more than just hepatitis C.

This auction is not just about art, it's about making a difference. By broadening our model to include many other health needs, such as cancer and heart disease, we are bringing much-needed healthcare to some of the UK's most excluded populations.

AOAP has engaged some exciting guest curators who have each brought exceptional talent to the auction. The guest curators include gallerists India Bhattacharjee and Lovisa Bernston, who are graciously hosting the summer auction private view at their wonderful eponymously named Berntson Bhattacharjee in Fitzrovia, which opened in 2020 and converted from a car park. Lovisa and India's auction includes KV Duong, currently part of Hauser & Wirth's excellent show, An Uncommon Thread, in their Somerset gallery; Xu Yang, whose rococo-inspired works are based on childhood fantasy and fetish; and Shannon Bono, whose work focuses on Black women's lived experience.

Also guest curating is gallerist Alice Amati, whose auction includes Italian painter Roberto de Pinto, who populates his canvases with bodies that are said to be his alter ego; Martyn Cross, who paints to explore his inner life and "the strangeness of the ordinary"; and Saudi Arabian artist Lulua Alyahya, who paints dislocated subjects, "posing strange yet familiar accounts of culturally resonant archetypes."

Another guest curator is German artist Hanna ten Doornkaat, who has contributed three beautiful hand-sewn abstracts and curated a largely abstract group of artists, including Charlie Smith, gallery owner Zavier Ellis, and Annamarie Dzendrowskyj, whose work captures fleeting moments in a world of constant flux.

The final guest curators are gallerists Bella Blake and Dimitrios Tsivrikos from the London gallery, THE TAGLI. Bella and Dimitrios' roster includes multi-disciplinary British artist Lottie Stoddart, whose practice encompasses painting, ceramic, textile and animation; Portuguese artist Afonso Rocha, who explores the intricacy of interpersonal relations with irony and humour; and Piers Alsop, whose work often refers to fictions we hold in our collective conscience.

Alongside our guest curators, AOAP's Gemma Peppé has amassed over a hundred artists to create original postcard-sized work. AOAP's collection of artists includes Belgian artist Ethel Coppetiers, who creates figures nourished by classical feminine references but also by contemporary narrative elements; K Blick, known for dynamic abstract baroque compositions; British painter Amy Beager, whose paintings hover between classical and contemporary; and expressionistic painter Sabrina Shah.

Art on a Postcard's auctions are about buying affordable art by artists you might not be able to afford in a gallery. Art lovers increasingly report our auctions as a great platform to find new and exciting emerging artists. The combination of guest curators and the meticulous research done by AOAP makes our auctions unmissable opportunities to expand your art collection and discover new talent.

The online auction will begin to close from 2pm on Tuesday, 1 July 2025.
