ARTIST INFO

Ruprecht von Kaufmann (b.1974 in Munich, Germany) was educated at the Art Center College of Design, Los Angeles, CA. von Kaufmann is one of the most important figurative painters in Germany today, as Dr. Brigitte Hausmann, curator for the Art Program of the City of Berlin writes in her essay. His forceful and emotional paintings are unsettling and purposefully so. He uses the figures in his paintings to trigger an empathetic and raw reaction in the viewer. Von Kaufmann puts a great emphasis on story telling, because it’s through stories, that man tries to give meaning to his life. In his work he captures moments that are at once deeply personal but also hinting at a universal experience. For Von Kaufman, painting is a reflection on life and therefore it evolves constantly. His artwork displays this level of consideration, as his figurative work is full of dark humour as well as dense melancholy.1995- BFA in painting at the Art Center College of Design, Los Angeles, CA 1997
