Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork

Featuring creatures permeable to the elements, the artist chooses subjects whose openness gives viewers the freedom to let down their guards. Nadine Faraj’s work is suffused with humour and tenderness, while engaged with anti-racism, LGBTQI+ activism, and feminism. Her watercolours are made with a wet technique that allows pigments to move out of their original positions and blur the final image. This intentional dream-like effect embodies the shifting nature of our perception. Breaking through the natural boundaries within and between her figures, Faraj points to the underlying permeability of our beings.
