Sophie Milner is a London based artist. Predominantly working in oil paint, her current body of work explores the ways in which domestic space can be imbued with psychological animation. Careful composition of colour, form and symbolism fragment the pictorial space into a territory of perspectives that forefront their atmospheric charge. The figures within invite us to question their situational agency, paused momentarily on the cusp of their participation in the scenes they inhabit. The resulting paintings are often filled with a sense of quiet restlessness, that toy with the languages associated with movement and stillness, the figurative and abstract, and the self as perceived and felt.

Regularly exhibiting in exhibitions and art fairs internationally, Milner has had three solo exhibitions to date, Spilt Salt at Studio 1.1 in 2015, Sleepwalkers at Arusha Gallery 2016, Edinburgh and Unstitching, London 2022. Her work has been widely featured in publications including Harpers Bazaar Magazine, Aesthetica Magazine, Create Magazine and Wide Walls.
