Kay Spare is a painter and illustrator based in south London. Trained at Goldsmiths’ and motivated by landscape, nature, and the figure, Kay has work held in private and public collections, including Trevelyan College, University of Durham and Kings College Hospital, London. The endlessly changing light and colours of the western Sky over the sea hold particular fascination and remain an enduring source of inspiration, resulting in rich oil paintings. Children’s books written and illustrated by Kay include Mrs Timm’s Ten Cats, Mooncat, Roll Up Master Prickles. Collaborations with Poet John Powls have led to exciting new directions in her work. Kay was a prize-winner in the 2007 Dulwich Picture Gallery ‘Portraits of Children’ competition, judged by Humphrey Ocean RA. www.kayspare.com
