Elva Mulchrone lives and works between Dublin and London where she is completing an MA in painting at RCA.
She is an alumnus of Trinity College Dublin and NCAD, Dublin. She has been awarded grants and bursaries including The Mainie Jellet travel Bursary, The Thomas Dammann Junior Memorial Trust Award, The Emerging Artist Bursary from DLR and is included in Infrastructure-Fingals Public Art Programme 2017-2021. Her work is in the OPW (Irish State) and the TCD collections.
Conceptually driven, her practice examines the role of abstraction in contextualising and recontextualising an understanding of who and where we are, social science concerns, repeat pattern and of aesthetics. Her practice to date has been informed by her first primary degree, in Economics, her practice for 13 years as a solicitor, and analysis of data. She is inspired by research, most recently at LSE and Imperial College, London.
She is fascinated by the apparent toxicity of the human condition, our disinclination to be convinced by truth or fact and our interest in distraction.
She seeks to operate within a time-lag between argument and interpretation, between the objective and the subjective so that another sort of meaning, and another sort of understanding can arise.
She is currently completing her MA in Painting at the RCA, London.
She has a degree in Economics and Business (Hons) from Trinity College Dublin and in in Fine Art (Painting -First Class) from The National College of Art and Design, Dublin. She continues to research at TCD and has researched at WZB Berlin and Columbia University NYC. She has been conducting research since September 2018 at LSE on economic patterns and since October 2019 at Imperial College on antibiotics of last resort.
Mulchrone presented solo shows Res Ipsa Loquitur with Gibbons & Nicholas (online) and Building Blocks at The Blyth Gallery, Imperial College in 2020 and Irrational Exuberance with Eight Gallery, Dublin (2018).

About the postcard artworks
The Thick of it, I and II, acrylic and silkscreen on Fabriano, is a reflection and abstraction on conceptual analogies concerning data from research at LSE on social immobility patterns/voters behaviour in the Uk and at Imperial College on antibiotics of last resort.
Mulchrone is fascinated by the parallels conceptually between voters disinclination to be affected by factual information and humans disinclination to be effected by an antibiotic.
The Thick of it is an abstraction and reflection of the truths within truths, the real story inside the totality of information presented. It comments of the progression of an antibiotic of last resort, analogous with a solution to our problems, within its parameters and confines, in contemporary society.
