ARTIST INFO

About

Born in Tokyo, Japan, UK-based artist Takayuki Hara's work evolves from the idea of an ephemeral composition of disjointed memories. It is a search for memories which have been buried and only fragments can be exhumed. Hara studied Japanese Literature: Creative Writing in Japan, the rich narrative elements of his work come from the background as a writer. His work has been exhibited widely in the Uk, and internationally including United States, Germany and Poland, and numerous Art Fairs across the globe. His work was shown in European Parliament in Brussels, and he was commissioned to have a solo show at Manggha Museum of Japanese Art and Technology in Krakow, Poland in 2015.

Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork

These little pieces started from my obsession about jumpers. I love jumpers and would probably call myself a collector. I wanted to capture memories of this particular jumper I had when I was younger.

I was aiming to capture an ephemeral composition of disjointed memories in these pieces: a search for places which had been buried deep memories over time and only fragments can be exhumed. Akin to déjà vu: a fleeting moment in everyday life, I am interested in the places/items which conjure up memories, where borders of reality and fiction can be blurred and make myself yearn for the places/items that I am not able to locate anymore.
