About
Lee Maelzer was born in London born and lives and works in London and North West Sutherland. She studied at Central St Martins College of Art and Design and the Royal College of Art. Since 2005 she has had twelve solo exhibitions and has exhibited widely in group shows in the UK. Her work has also been exhibited internationally, including: The Netherlands, USA, Cyprus, Spain, Czech Republic, Finland, Mexico, Tunisia, Switzerland, China, Austria, Germany, Sweden, Greece, Italy, France and Estonia. She received the Bryan Robertson Trust Award, 2019, The Abbey Fellowship at The British School at Rome, 2004, participated twice in Bloomberg ARTFutures, was shortlisted for the East London Painting Prize, the Celeste Art Prize, twice shortlisted for the John Moores Painting Prize and has been exhibited in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition five times.

Residencies include: Girne American University Funded Residency, Kyrenia, Cyprus (2018); Artistic Crossing, Tunis, Tunisia (2016); Directional Forces, Psarades, Greece (2016 & 2015); Aldeburgh Beach Lookout Project, Aldeburgh, UK (2013); JOYA residency, Los Gasquez, Spain (2010); Deviant Art Festival, Trollhattan, Sweden (2007); Storefront Artists’ Project, Pittsfield, Massachusetts, (2007); Abbey Fellowship, British School at Rome, Italy, (2004); Arts Council of England Fellowship, Colima, Mexico, (2002). Permanent collections include: Zabludowicz Collection; David Roberts Collection; Queen Mary University, London, The University of the Arts Collection; Frank Cohen Collection; Calvert 22; Hudson Valley Community College and extensive private collections.

She is a senior lecturer in fine art at the University of East London. Other lecturing posts include BA Hons courses at Central St Martins College of Art, Winchester College of Art and City and Guilds of London Art School, visiting lecturer at Loughborough College of Art BA and on the MA at the Royal Academy Schools and the University for the Creative Arts, Farnham.
