Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork
My submitted artwork, ’The Artist’, is an oil portrait of the shadow of an artist in her studio, with her painting in the background. It explores the refracting aspects of character, as character can be consciously or unconsciously portrayed to others through our interests, our style, and how we interact with the different people we encounter - in this case, the artist’s character in this little portrait comes across through the body posture and gait of her shadow as well as the style, focus, brushstroke and colour of her own paintings. What we create is as much a window into our souls as our facial and body expressions. This artwork also continues to play with a love of light and colour.
