Working across media with assemblage, video, sound, text, performance and photography Anne Tallentire explores social and cultural conditions that determine overlooked aspects of daily life. Her postcards: Thinking Living Space 1 and Thinking Living Space 2 drawn with masking tape, depict floor plans related to social housing provision.
Anne Tallentire born in N.Ireland has lived and worked in London since she studied post graduate Fine Art at the Slade 1986-88. Solo exhibitions and projects include Shelter, a 14-18NOW - Nerve Centre, Derry commission (2017), ‘AS FAR AS’, Hollybush Gardens (2016), a major survey show ‘This and other Things’, IMMA (2010), Drift: diagram xiii, Void, Derry (2002) and ‘Instances’, representing Ireland at the Venice Biennale (1999). Group shows include Truth 24 Frames per second, Dallas Museum of Art ( 2017) ‘Keywords: Art, Culture and Society in 1980’s Britain’, Tate Liverpool, ‘At your service’, Technisches Museum, Vienna and Winter Garden, Flat time House, London (2014); Le Monde Physique, La Galerie, CAC, Noisy-Le-Sec, Paris (2011) and ‘Neue Welt’, Frankfurter Kunstverein, Frankfurt (2001). In 1993 Tallentire formed with John Seth their collaborative practice work-seth/tallentire. Their exhibitions include Trailer, Project Arts Centre, Dublin (2001), and Hollybush Gardens (2015) and group shows such as ‘Deniste’, Fri-0 Art, Friborg and ‘Sum of the Parts,’ South London Gallery (2002). With writer and curator Chris Fite-Wassilak Tallentire co-organises the quarterly sound based test centre, Hmn. She is Professor Emeritus, Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts, London where she taught for two decades.
