ARTIST INFO

Katie Sollohub is a Sussex based artist who is interested in documenting and recording the places she lives and works in through drawings, paintings, performance, photography and poetry.

Artist Statement: A lot of my work comes from daily practice and the stuff around me; a shelf of still life objects that come and go in my studio, the view from a window, the space of a room. Often this is in the everyday space of my home and studio, but occasionally I am invited to work in other people’s homes, most notably historic houses, such as Turner’s House and Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham, and more recently West Horsley Place in Surrey. Through visits, and drawing and painting in situ, I get to know a place, it becomes familiar, I make myself feel at home through the process. It is a joy then, to revisit some of these places though this postcard project, like looking at old photographs, the memories of being there come back as I paint. I am delighted to be part of such a worthwhile project, and hope that others may benefit from the pleasure I get through making these paintings, both those that buy them, and those to whom the proceeds go.
