Emma Childs is an American painter born in 1996. Childs graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) with a BFA in General Fine Arts. The Baltimore native uses eloquent shapes and thoughtful pops of colour to create objects that physically interact with their environment. Through her minimalist approach, Childs transforms experiences and emotions into simplified form, colour, and geometric edges. The results are eye-catching compositions, which tell complicated and interconnected narratives in an accessible way. Childs’s paintings are layered depictions of existence in the worlds we build around ourselves. You can find more of Childs' work on her instagram @emmechilds, or her website www.emmachildsart.com.

About the postcard artwork
My work is often about creating images that feel like a shape or element of the painting is balanced, contained, or sometimes launched by another. I love to observe the way people find comfort, support, and challenge in relationship. This can be friendship, a family bond, support from a stranger, a secret admiration, or a romance. We all cannot live without this feeling of relationship in some form or another, and I enjoy the challenge of creating a visual metaphor that is so pared down, that hopefully it leaves room for any viewer to find a feeling of familiarity and unity in the human experience.
