Justin Virdi was born in Whitley Bay, North Shields in 1981. He studied BA Fine Art at Liverpool John Moores University, after graduating in 2002 he was awarded the Stuart Sutcliffe Art Prize. He works in a wide variety of mediums and materials, yet has always considered drawing as a fundamental tool in which to research and develop ideas, its importance to his practice led him to study MA Drawing at Wimbledon School of Art graduating in 2006.Skirting between the boundaries of fine art and illustration his current works derive from a variety of sources and subject matter that explore narrative, science, surrealism, satire, comedy, stupidity and our human interaction around them all. These observations result in ideas that encapsulate experiences, distant memories, occurrences and that ridiculous sense of mortal self-awareness, that is often too familiar and yet at times hard to place, usually leaving things up to interpretation. He lives and works in London.
