Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork
These are two images exploring a nocturnal landscape, one specifically referencing the Inner city environment of Manchester in the late 1980s, the abandoned decaying modernism of Hulme housing estate, a community of travellers and their dogs and horses. I remember the horses standing sleeping like ‘anthracite statues’ as Dylan Thomas would call them.
The other is an imagined scene in the Firth of Clyde. I was thinking of poet W.S Graham and painter William Scott, exiled Greenock men who made their work out of the beauty and strangeness found in the domestic.
