About
Art has always played an important role though out my life; from studying History of Art and a Fine Art painting degree, to working in galleries and teaching art in primary schools and running workshops. I had a stint as a mural painter and continue to paint landscape commissions. Whether painting outside in nature or in my studio I allow exploration and intuition to guide me. Ultimately I strive to create uplifting paintings that evoke a sense of optimism and calm. The healing effect of open spaces and connection to nature has drawn me back to live and work in Wiltshire, where I grew up. Using primarily oil paint I aim to capture the playful effects of sunlight and how it affects colour, texture and atmosphere with a scene. I like to think we can all have a go and let ourselves be free and spontaneous when we allow ourselves to do so, something that comes so naturally to children but seems often to leave us as we get older.

Statement about AOAP Submitted Artworks
Inspired by the intense heatwaves from last summer my small oil sketches play on the contrasts created between the cool shadows and warm, pastel, patches of light. Originally painted in situ, the extreme heat was challenging to paint in, though the colours in the landscape were so intoxicating I had to get them onto canvas!
