ARTIST INFO

About

Dide is a painter, poet and composer-musician. In 2023 she became a Royal Society of British Artists Rising Star only four months after completing her first portrait, won the Society of Women Artists Karin Walker Young Artist Award, was selected by the Women in Art Prize, and was longlisted for the Aesthetica Art Prize. Her neurodiverse style is derived from how she sees the world, by trying to find shapes in everyday things to avoid visual overwhelm. She is inspired by narrative, photographic techniques, and philosophy, and specialises in oil portraits, sometimes hiding poems in other artworks and creating exhibition soundtracks. She has exhibited regionally, nationally and internationally, and is already in private collections alongside work by Tracey Emin and Gavin Turk. She is entirely self-taught in art, since summer 2020. Her debut poetry collection, Making Sense, was published in 2023, and her debut poetry pamphlet, Growing, in 2022. More info on her website www.dide.uk and insta _d_i_d_e_.

Education

Self-taught in art. Other education includes a Philosophy MACantab from the University of Cambridge, studies at the Royal College of Music JD and Lausanne Conservatoire of Music, and courses from The Poetry School London, all through the generosity of scholarships.

Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork

Dide's artwork for Art on a Postcard, ‘Nose ring’, continues to explore the concepts of luminous glow and flow, the uniqueness of paint within translating photographic techniques to the canvas, the relationship between material things and personal identity, and the re-owning and modernising of a traditionally narrow human figure in historical portraiture. It is based on Andreas Kronthaler’s Vivienne Westwood 2022 Spring-Summer Collection and is repurposed for her desires.
