Mead is a current PhD candidate at the Slade school of art, having completed his MA in painting, receiving a Felix Slade Scholarship. He is also a recipient of the Betty Malcom Painting Scholarship and Duveen Travel Prize and in 2021 he was awarded the Max Werner Drawing Prize. Recent exhibitions include Volatile Futures at Unit 1 gallery, London, EARN gathering: Making Artistic Research Public, Helsinki and Genius Loci a duo show with Marielle Hehir at APT gallery, London. The layers of his paintings reveal histories and ghosts of the past which linger in the changing landscapes of today. Using the materiality of painting along with fieldwork and harvesting and making pigments, his work reveals different types of residues of human impacts on our planet. These traces can be both visual and colourful but sometimes microscopic and hidden. In these stratified landscapes the earth ruptures and transforms as ghosts of deep time intersect with fragments of his own memories.
