Curated by Art on a Postcard

Alison Dollery is a British visual artist, writer, and curator who works across London and West Sussex. Dollery employs the materiality of her own body as both the medium and canvas for her work to promote the positivity of the realness of the body, engaging in diverse artistic forms and expanding practices of drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, performance art, and writing. These forms are all unified around the lived experience of her body, which she refers to as the "Manufactured Body." Her art practice and research have been deeply influenced by her journey of drastic weight loss and body transformation, allowing her to assert ownership over her embodied experiences.

Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork

“The works made especially for Art on a Postcard are original artworks in their own right. They represent fragments and ideas from the Manufactured Body Project (derived from the Latin meaning 'hand to make' ourselves), highlighting the realness of the human body in 21st-century culture and how we relate to our and each other's bodies.

'Miss Performance and the Drawings' are not just images; they are intricate drawings that depict the remains of skin that we all have on our bodies due to ageing, childbirth, medical procedures or weight loss and gain. These drawings, created with meticulous detail, invite you to explore the beauty and complexity of the human body.

Becoming the Painting is a real image of the artist's body painted in oil paint and photographed in drawing sets, layered body concepts around the complexities of the materiality of our bodies."

Please do not bid on artwork in our Art on a Postcard auctions if you intend on selling the artwork after you have purchased it. This auction has been organised for charity; all artworks have been generously donated by the artists to raise money for charity. When a work is sold on the secondary market it damages our relationship with the artist and prevents us from fundraising.
