Meet the Artist: Anna Mond
Anna Mond is an artist from Germany who is currently included in our Ten Year Anniversary Auction, we asked her a few questions about her practice and artworks:
You have spoken before about operating in a fantastical universe. Is world building an integral part of your creative practice?
The parallel Fantastical Universe is obviously somewhere out there and I've got a key to its tiny window. But in all seriousness, it's mostly a concoction of fantasy and reality.
Your submitted artworks feature Skeletons and Dracula. Do they have specific personalities that you would like to elaborate on?
I think all of them are cheerful and roly-poly, forever upbeat and jester like. I can go on but they speak for themselves better than I ever can.
How does your creative process begin? Do you have an idea of what you are going to make before you sit down?
Most of the time I know exactly what the painting should look like, what story it will tell, emotions it will express. My notebook is always close by to make a simple sketch and write down the feelings, the sounds, the textures, the smells and the colors of the painting to be. The ideas materialize in my mind either spontaneously or when I explore a particular mood which then guides me to collect pieces of a puzzle until I have them all. Then I begin painting. I don't start unprepared.
Do you have any projects on the horizon that you would like to share?
Since I don't do collaborations or exhibitions this is a rare opportunity to see two of my works in person. I always appreciate your invitation and happy to contribute to a noble cause. This year I will continue to focus on my own expression while working directly with art lovers. And this year also happens to be a year of commissioned portraits of pets.
