Meet the Artist: Tahnee Lonsdale

Meet the Artist: Tahnee Lonsdale

Tahnee Lonsdale is an artist rendering emotional divinity through the use of layered oil paints and ethereal, intuitive compositions. Born in 1982 and raised in Sussex, UK, Tahnee attended the University of the Arts in London where she primarily studied painting, graduating with a BFA in 2007. After moving to LA in 2015, her practice evolved to embrace large-scale painting, soft sculpture, and works on paper. Tahnee Lonsdale lives and works in Los Angeles, CA.

Your work is other-worldly, what draws you to abstracting reality?

There are no rules. It’s my world and I decide on my version of reality.

How would you define emotional divinity, a term used in relation to your work?

Emotion is communication between your soul and your body. Sometimes quiet, sometimes loud. The noise gets louder until you actually listen.

The figures in your paintings embody a feeling of tenderness, is this notion of care intentional?

Yes. Motherhood is a big theme for me. The act of mothering is very spiritual. It’s also not easy. The act of caring is an act of love. Love, Spiritlity and mothering are all holding hands.

What motivated you to participate in this auction raising money for War Child U.K?

Its a small act of service in a big world of taking.

Do you have any projects on the horizon that you would like to share?

I have a solo show with night Gallery in LA in September.
