Art on a Podcast - Series 8 - Winter Auction
Episode 1: Iris Schomaker
Meet Berlin-based artist, Iris Schomaker, fresh from her show at Huxley Parlour! Iris discusses living and working in Berlin, being married to an artist, and her creative process.
"These figures are in a very private situation usually, they are not representing something, they are very often barefoot, they are in a situation where they feel sheltered, they don't have to represent something...in the end it's not about being a man or a woman, but more about being human." - Iris Schomaker, on her works
EPISODE 2: MELISSA STERN
We are in conversation with Melissa Stern, an American artist and journalist based in New York City. This summer, Melissa exhibited her 20-year retrospective show, 'Stronger than Dirt' in NYC, exploring Melissa's large range of work across different mediums.
"All of my pieces share a thematic thread. Childlike and goofy my figures live in a dream world, cower in relationships or stand tall in the face of adversity." - Melissa, on her works
EPISODE 3: CATHY TABBAKH AND THE AUCTION COLLECTIVE
Meet French contemporary artist, Cathy Tabbakh, based in the UK. Her colourful work collides imaginary forms with existing landscapes through the use of both architectural and botanical elements, she focuses on still-life and interiors.
Cathy's work is featured in Stylist and Grazia and showed works at a duo show with Delphian Gallery and The Other Art Fair in London.
This episode also includes an exclusive interview with Tom Best, the director of The Auction Collective, our auction partner!
EPISODE 4: ANDREW SALGADO
Our fourth episode features Andrew Salgado, one of the UK's leading figurative painters. He has had over 15 sold-out international solo exhibitions in London, New York, and Miami, among others. Andrew has two upcoming solo shows in New York and Tokyo in 2022, with his work being collected in numerous private and public collections world-wide.
Salgado's subjects are depicted in a fantastical, often ominous tableaux: harlequin-like figures, wisps of mysterious smoke, low-hanging moons, and the remnants from a Bohemian celebration are current motifs.
