Chris Orr RA for Art on a Ukulele
Chris Orr RA is a British Narrative Artist who gained his reputation in etching but has now moved on to a wide range of mediums such as drawing and lithography. Born in Helensburgh in Scotland, Chris studied in Scotland at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design and Fine Art at Royal College of Art in London. He was awarded an MBE and made Professor Emeritus in 2008. His works are in collections including Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles and the Museum of Modern Art, New York. Orr creates paintings which are often executed on a small scale and incorporate references to the realms of nature, science and the sublime.
He has exhibited his work at galleries including Tate Britain (London), Witte de With (Rotterdam), Hauser & Wirth (Zurich), Museum of Contemporary Art (Los Angeles) and IBID PROJECTS (London). Orr is represented by IBID PROJECTS, London and Hauser & Wirth, Zurich.
Chris is interested in the performative aspect of Art, the process either solitary or with someone, and then the presentation of it to an ‘audience’. Chris is a ‘natural anarchist’ and stylistically his work does not conform to the constructs of past legends such as Durer. His work is packed full of detail, within every section there’s a whole world to explore. Chris invites people to read his work as well as look at it.
