Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork
‘Planned Obsolescence’ are collages that ruminate on the business strategy of tech companies which design products that will degrade rapidly or go out of fashion. The serpentine forms of these collages allude to the ouroboros - a snake consuming its tail - which is a symbol of eternity and regeneration. The tangled, incomplete forms instead reflect the cycle of consumption and waste which 'planned obsolescence' creates. The serpent searching for its tail symbolises a desire for a more utopian approach to our devices, one of repair and ‘planned longevity’.
