Mizuki Nishiyama is a mixed Japanese contemporary artist whose work explores feminine trauma, cultural heritage, and materiality. Working primarily with painting and sculpture, she incorporates ancestral soil and knife-cutting techniques to evoke the tension between destruction and renewal.

Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork 

A series of Japanese ink paintings; bold yet delicate lines of sumi ink on paper. Each piece balances control and spontaneity, drawing from the precision of traditional Japanese brushwork and the fluidity of Western abstraction. The lines waver, bleed, and break—echoing the fragility of the body and the passage of time. Through these gestures, the paintings become quiet, poetic reflections on impermanence and memory.
