Hamed Maiye is an interdisciplinary artist based in London who explores themes related to memory, magic, visual archiving, and magical realism through a variety of materials, including painting, photography, sculpture, and performance. His work draws from cultural anthropology, Yoruba philosophy, and historical documentation to create allegorical scenarios that are intended to provoke introspection and emotional reflection. Maiye's art questions language, painting, and image-making while exploring the cultural mythology and myth making that inform his work. His work presents viewers with surrealist and portraiture scenarios that challenge their perceptions of reality and encourages them to reflect on the constructed nature of memory and history.
