About

Caroline Zurmely (b. 1994) graduated from Rhode Island School of Design in 2017 with a BFA in painting. Currently, she is based in Detroit, MI. Her recent projects have focused on fashion, feminine beauty products and the accoutrements of modern celebrity. Her work has been exhibited in Los Angeles, New York and London.

Zurmely’s art is often driven by material, texture, process and colour. Recent series have focused on nail polish enamel relief paintings. Her work with nail polish is inspired by tabloid/magazine photography and aims to create a sense of intimacy and obscurity through offbeat close-ups. Utilizing unconventional materials and working within the restrictions they place on her art, Zurmely hopes to initially perplex the viewer and drive them towards deeper consideration of the techniques and mediums she applied to her pieces.

Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork

“The paintings submitted are a continuation of the work in nail polish. Two halves which make a whole, they create a complete image when placed together.”

Insulate Ukraine

Overview

We bring warmth, light and safety to war-impacted homes with an innovative window developed with the help of engineers from the University of Cambridge. We've installed more than 20,000 windows in cities across Ukraine. Our projects provide work to financially destitute areas empowering local communities.

Problem

During winter many Ukrainians will face freezing conditions due to their windows being shattered. Current solutions such as OSB fall short on several counts. They don't insulate well, they don't let light through, they can be difficult to install, and they shatter.

Solution

Our triple-glazed polyethylene windows provide an affordable, effective remedy, that increases resilience in communities worst affected by the invasion.

Benefits

Our windows present multifaceted benefits. For recipients, they ensure warmth, safety, and improved living conditions. Local civilians gain work which fuels regional business. Donors contribute to a solution that enhances energy efficiency, supports economic growth, and aids the most vulnerable, creating profound environmental, economic, and social impacts in Ukraine.
