About
Kat Giordano, originally from Boston, Massachusetts, now resides in London after completing her Master of Fine Arts degree at Goldsmiths University. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including shows such as "Now Introducing 2022" at Studio West in London, UK, and "Unannounced: The Other Voices of Silence" at Lampo in Milan, Italy, as well as a feature in the Scalpel building in London. Working in oil, Giordano explores the imbalance within societal structures, particularly how entrenched patriarchal norms can perpetuate passive, implicit forms of violence. She captures moments frozen in time, such as stiff portraits or mundane domestic scenes, focusing on subtle details like the positioning of hands or the arrangement of cropped bodies to highlight this underlying discomfort. The vibrant, contrasting backgrounds intensify this tension, revealing how idealised facades conceal systems of control and power.

Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork
Both works explore the idea of seemingly normal yet uncanny scenes, using vibrant colours to draw the viewer in. However, the awkward positioning of body language and expression reveals an underlying discomfort, suggesting that there is more beneath the surface than what the image initially presents. This subtle dissonance echoes Giordano’s broader exploration of societal expectations and hidden conflicts, where idealised facades conceal deeper, often uncomfortable truths.
