About
Márcia Porto is a Brazilian artist living and working in Nottingham. She investigates the intricate relationship between the body and both natural and humanised spaces, emphasizing embodied experiences, corporeality, and spatial politics. The body and natural or humanised spaces also create codes of meaning for the sensitive and emotional experience of pain, whether physical or through processes of environmental dis-identification and exploration within a social and political context. Her interdisciplinary practice encompasses murals, drawing, performance, painting, and installation. Through her work, she seeks to create spaces of contemplation where the intersections of gender, identity, environmental collapse, vulnerability, and movement unfold in quiet yet potent gestures.

Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork
The artworks express my deep desire for a bond between human beings, nature, animals, and the cosmos. I enjoy reflecting on humanity's place within this context as a symbolic field that weaves connections in defiance of environmental exploitation and its resulting states of vulnerability. Three Moons and Portolan Chart are paintings created with layers of watercolour and gouache. Your Dance is Her Dance and Sharing are graphite drawings. In these works, I seek for a quiet symbiosis, where care emerges as a form of resistance.
